Teppan Gaya Fukuoka Review: Best Okonomiyaki & Yakisoba

A casual local teppan-style restaurant in Fukuoka serving okonomiyaki and yakisoba.
Honest review of Teppan Gaya, including what we ordered and prices.

While walking around Fukuoka looking for a casual dinner spot,
we ended up at Teppan Gaya (てっぱん雅家) — and it turned out to be a great find.

This is a small, local teppan-style restaurant, meaning everything is cooked fresh on a hot iron plate right in front of you.
The vibe is very local, relaxed, and far from touristy.

What We Ordered

Mentaiko Cheese Potato Okonomiyaki

A rich but well-balanced combination of mentaiko (spicy cod roe), cheese, and potato.
It sounds heavy, but it wasn’t overwhelming at all — the saltiness of the mentaiko and the creaminess of the cheese worked perfectly together.

Price: ¥1,200

Classic Okonomiyaki

This is the most basic version, but sometimes simple is best.
Made with cabbage, pork, and egg batter, topped with sweet okonomiyaki sauce, mayo, and bonito flakes.
You really get to taste the texture of the cabbage and the flavor of the batter.

Price: ¥850

Yakisoba (with Fried Egg)

The yakisoba comes with a fried egg included, which was a nice bonus.
The noodles had a great smoky flavor from the teppan, and once the egg yolk broke, everything came together beautifully.

Price: ¥750 (fried egg included)

Overall Thoughts

  • Local, no-frills teppan-style restaurant
  • Reasonable prices and generous portions
  • Great balance between okonomiyaki and yakisoba options

If you’re looking for a casual local dinner spot in Fukuoka,
Teppan Gaya is a solid choice — especially if you enjoy okonomiyaki and yakisoba cooked right on the iron plate.

Next time, I’d definitely come back with a cold beer and try a few more items on the menu.

This wasn’t a fancy restaurant, but that’s exactly why I liked it.
Just good food, cooked right in front of you, and a place locals actually go.
