📍Hakata Issou – Main Branch
If you’ve ever searched for “best ramen in Fukuoka”,
this spot almost always shows up.
Hakata Issou is one of those long-standing ramen shops in Fukuoka —
featured on TV, loved by locals, and even known as a favorite among celebrity chefs.
So naturally, expectations were pretty high.
📍 Location & Basic Info
- Main branch (there are multiple locations, so double-check)
- Near Hakata Station – easy to access on foot
- Opening hours: 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM
(Late-night ramen is totally possible)
⏰ Since it’s very popular,
waiting during peak hours is almost unavoidable.

🍜 What I Ordered
Chashu Ramen
The moment you take the first sip,
you instantly understand what kind of ramen this is.
The broth is extremely rich and thick tonkotsu —
creamy, heavy, and intensely pork-forward.
If you’re a hardcore tonkotsu fan, this is probably right up your alley.
Personally though, I’m not someone who loves ramen that much,
so for me, it felt a little overwhelming 😅
Not bad — just very intense.
🧄 A Unique Detail Here
Every table comes with:
- Whole garlic cloves
- A garlic crusher
You’re encouraged to crush the garlic yourself
and add it directly into the broth.
Garlic lovers will probably love this.
But for me, the broth was already super rich —
and once garlic was added, it became too much.
👉 Honestly, not my personal preference 🥲
💰 Important Payment Info (Don’t Skip This)
🚨 Cash only. No cards accepted.
- Order via the ticket machine at the entrance
- Credit cards ❌
- Japanese yen cash is required ❗️
If you don’t know this in advance,
it can get awkward very quickly — so be prepared.
📝 My Honest Take
Recommended if you:
- Love bold, heavy tonkotsu ramen
- Enjoy adding lots of garlic to your food
Not ideal if you:
- Prefer lighter, cleaner broths
- Aren’t a big ramen person
👉 Worth trying once,
but I personally wouldn’t wait in a long line for it again.

- Comfortable for moving around Fukuoka
When I booked my stay,
I compared prices through Agoda, since availability and rates change often.
